Based on the number of recent plant diagnostic requests received, the scouting of crops I encouraged a couple of weeks ago is happening.
Recent rainfall and favorable conditions have encouraged mildews on flowers, fire blight on apple trees, black rot of grape, leaf spots on vegetables and much more.
Control of plant diseases begins with selecting disease resistant varieties while implementing other appropriate cultural practices. Application of a pesticide may be helpful in preventing the progression of a disease. See attached publications for recommendations. Always follow the product label when applying pesticides.
